Ensemble Dal Niente wins prestigious Kranichsteiner Stipendienpreis at 2010 Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, Germany

Chicago, IL, August 2010: Ensemble Dal Niente is excited to announce that it has been selected as one of the Internationale Ferienkurse fur Neue Musik Darmstadt's 2010 Kranichsteiner Stipendienpreis winners!

The prize is awarded to performers who participated in the 2010 Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music, and whose performances were identified as being outstanding in quality and impact. Further criteria
for the prize includes fidelity to the score, presence on stage, enthusiasm, efficiency of communication to the audience and other performers, clarity with regard to the interpretational approach, and quality of sound.
Ensemble Dal Niente was awarded the prize as a result of their electrifying concert which included Mark André's Asche and Hans Thomalla's Momentsmusicaux.

Ensemble Dal Niente was invited to participate in the 2010 summer course as a member of the ENSEMBLE 2010 program, which selected 7 young ensembles from around the world for intensive coaching and mentoring
and to perform. Ensemble Dal Niente was the only American group invited to participate in the ENSEMBLE 2010 program. With the Stipendienpreis, Ensemble Dal Niente will return to Darmstadt in 2012 to present a full
evening concert. This is the first time the award has been given to an ensemble.

The Kranichsteiner prizes were initiated in 1952 and since then have been awarded 32 times to a total of 170 laureates. The Stipenienpreise (scholarships) are awarded for participation in the Darmstadt Summer Courses
in 2012. This year's independent deliberating jury consisted of composer James Clarke, musicologist and dramaturge Bernhard Günther and Barbara Maurer, violist of Ensemble Recherche.

Ensemble Dal Niente’s upcoming season is filled with exciting programming, including an American Chamber Music festival funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. The season opener concert on October
13, 7:30pm at the Mayne Stage (formerly the Morse Theatre) will feature a double bill set of world premieres and a repeat performance of the prize-winning Darmstadt repertoire.
