DELFOS Danza/ Tomás Gueglio-Saccone
This collaboration between Ensemble Dal Niente, contemporary dance troupe Delfos Danza (Mazatlán, MX), and composer Tomás I. Gueglio Saccone (Buenos Aires, Argentina), includes a thirty-minute work for four dancers and solo harpist (Ben Melsky) that deals with issues surrounding migration and otherness.
Through music and dance, this work explores issues of alienation, social friction, and acceptance. Both the subject matter and the presence of the harp (lyre) can be connected to Ulysses and the Odyssey, opening the door to productive conversation between Classical imagery, and the current unwelcoming political scenario facing immigrants in a large portion of the western world. The resulting work will span one-half of an entire evening’s program and will also serve as the basis for the production of a future dance-film.
