THE DAL NIENTE AND DEPAUL
SUMMER RESIDENCY FOR NEW MUSIC
JULY 11-17, 2022
Ensemble Dal Niente, in collaboration with the DePaul University School of Music, is thrilled to announce its third annual week-long summer residency program for graduate and undergraduate level composers and performers of new music.
Graduate and undergraduate level composers are invited to work with internationally recognized Ensemble Dal Niente, DePaul composition faculty Christopher W. Jones and Osnat Netzer, and distinguished guest composer Lei Liang for a week-long residency program. Throughout the week, young composers and will have opportunities to collaborate on new projects, work with Dal Niente musicians, receive individualized feedback from DePaul faculty composers, and participate in masterclasses. Participants will receive daily instruction through lessons, rehearsals, workshops and lectures. Projects realized during the residency will be performed on evening concerts.
All students will participate in lectures, demonstrations and workshops with composition faculty and members of Dal Niente. The residency will have four main components distributed across the duration of the week: lessons, lectures, rehearsals and a performance. Each participant accepted to the residency will be invited to compose a quartet with an assigned instrumentation for Ensemble Dal Niente. Over the course of the week, the ensemble will rehearse each piece twice, giving participants the opportunity to interact with the musicians, and receive feedback on their work. Recordings of each session will be made available to the composers. The week culminates with participants having their works premiered by the ensemble in a pair of concerts.
